Alumni Project – Library Refresh

Our library needs help in the form of a complete “refresh”. The books that you once loved are old and worn, but now, as alumni and friends of Sakeji, we can make a difference!

Think back to YOUR time spent in the library. What books did YOU particularly enjoy? What subjects were of interest to your younger self? Which authors grabbed your attention? Chances are, those books are still on the shelves, waiting to be replaced.

Are you planning to come to the 100th Anniversary Celebrations in July? What about adding a few books to your luggage? You could inspire a whole new generation of readers! Or perhaps you could find another way to get books to us.

Can’t remember what was in the library way back then? A few years ago, a Library Science student chose to come to Sakeji and while here, she developed an online catalogue of all the books on our shelves. Thank you, Beth Larter! If you need some inspiration, here is the link to that catalogue:

Obviously, a Christian school such as Sakeji must very carefully select the books that are made available in the library, and school staff would reserve the right to peruse the books which come in. Here are a few Christian publishers we would recommend:

  • Answers in Genesis

  • Focus of the Family

  • Zondervan/Zonderkids

  • Tydale House

  • Harvest House/Harvest Kids

  • Bethany House

  • Thomas Nelson

  • Worthy Kids

A well-rounded library also includes a good variety of non-fictional books of educational value. A few possible categories would include:

  • Reference books (trivia/facts)

  • Transportation (fast cars, planes and space travel)

  • Science/math

  • Technology/engineering/agriculture

  • manufacturing

  • Arts, crafts and music

  • Geography/history

  • Plants and animals

  • Biographies

For more information and details or if you have questions feel free to drop us a line at the office, we will more than glad to assist.
